At sTe Sophie Farm
we are reclaiming land for the next generation. We are growing certified organic fruit, herbs and vegetables.
We have shaped the farm into raised berms for better drainage and 3 dugouts to collect water
To replace nutrients in the soil we grow green manure such as alfalfa. This breaks up the hardpan, fixes nitrogen in the soil and is a nutritious mulch.
For additional fertility we raise pastured poultry. We run a chicken tractor over a berm. The chickens eat the weeds, rototill and scratch the soil as they move and fertilize constantly.
About Us
Gilbert is the man behind the success of Sophie Farms. Gilbert started in the industry working at another farm when he was only 15. He had an empowering vision to one day own his own farm. He was determined to get going early, so set out to find a land owner that would lease to him.
Gilbert spent many months looking for the right property, often being turned down as being too young. He persevered until he found the ideal piece of land where the landowner fully supported his vision and gave him his first break. Gilbert will never forget this person and that day, “Sophie farms had begun”. As the years progressed and the business grew Gilbert purchased his own farm land.
Looking back Gilbert says “Dreams Have No Limits” as long as you have the passion to go after your dream and not give up. He is a firm believer that every generation has the opportunity to remake the world into something greater. Gilbert has proudly grown his Sophie business year after year to now being one of the larger suppliers of Strawberries in Canada and exporting to international markets.
Gilbert is constantly thinking of new ways to give us even better products to savour. Sustainability and looking after his expansive team is always at the forefront of his mind. He always remembers the support of his parents, and the values they taught him. These values will continue to be passed on to so many that are now working with him. We get to enjoy delicious Sophie Strawberries because Gilbert is dedicated to his vision, driven by his passion, and operates with a caring approach to the local community.

Season Extension
Season extension is something all of us want. Strawberries are so yummy and good for us. We are always focusing on protecting our crops from damage occurring from extremes of heat or cold. We enhance the growth of our crops for quicker maturity and maintaining higher quality production under adverse weather conditions. Sophie Farms are currently looking at ways to make our Strawberries available outside our current season.
Healthier Choice
Our team deliver to you the consumers Strawberries that are both healthy and tasty. We are researching and progressively implementing the use of natural predators to manage on-farm crop pests. Our harvest and packaging methodology has a big emphasis on improving the quality and shelf life of the fruit. By picking the fruit with the stalk straight into punnets, we ensure your fruit, wherever possible, is not touched at all!

Community Supported Agriculture
We are welcoming families or individuals to join us this year. We will provide a box of fresh certified organic vegetables on a weekly basis starting around the end of June for 15 weeks. Amounts and types of produce will vary with the seasons. Each product has its own window of time. Plan to cook what is in the box. We aim to supply enough vegetables for a family of four, that is four people sharing the same meal. We will determine some pick up locations in the city. On the farm pick ups are 16km west of Winnipeg on Hwy #26. Farm pick ups are Thursdays. The city pick ups change from year to year according to numbers and locations of share members. Days will be determined.
